On Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, Jose Altuve and the Houston Astros agreed to a 5-year, $125 million contract extension. Altuve originally only had one year left on his contract that would last him through the upcoming 2024 season, and afterwards he would have become a free agent for the first time in his career. However, that is not the case, and the superstar will be with Houston for the rest of his career through the 2029 season Jose will be 39 years old at the end of his contract in which he'll likely retire thereafter.

The two-time World Series Champion (2017 & 2022), one-time American League Most Valuable Player (2017), and eight-time All-Star will play for the Astros for a total of 19 years from his debut in 2011 to the end of this new contract in 2029. Playing the entirety of one's career with the same team is a rarity across all professional team sports nowadays. So, whenever a player, like Jose Altuve, stays loyal to his team and is unwavering during the hard times, like the Astros experienced with the sign-stealing scandal, they become a cult hero that is beloved by the whole fanbase for countless decades to follow.
